About Us
We are open on Tuesday evenings
5pm to 8pm, on every tier, not as an extra. Most accountants keep office hours and expect you to fit round them, which works fine if you also work in an office. Our clients are on site at 9am and still there at four, so we made ourselves available when they can actually talk.
About Us
Based in Bedfordshire, we work nationally offering all aspects of Accountancy from Payroll, CIS, VAT, Bookkeeping, tax advice to year end Accounts. We are down to earth and build a very personable relationship with our clients. We do not take on every client who contacts us as we like to make sure we are a good fit for your requirements. If we feel we are not a good fit, we will help you find another Accountant we believe will work for you.
Everything runs on Xero, so your records are up to date rather than sitting in a carrier bag until January. We handle the setup so you are not left working it out yourself.
Our team has over 15 years of experience in trades and construction accounting. You are dealing with people who already know your industry, not people learning it on your time.
Who we help
Most accountants will tell you they can handle construction. Most of them can, up to a point. The point they usually stop at is where two sets of rules meet and contradict each other, which in this industry happens constantly.
No other sector carries this much on top of ordinary tax. CIS decides what lands in your bank. The VAT domestic reverse charge decides whether you invoice with VAT or without it. Employment status decides whether the person on site is your employee or your subcontractor. IR35 decides who carries the risk when they work through their own company.
Any one of those on its own is manageable. The difficulty is that they interact, and they do not line up neatly. CIS is calculated on labour and excludes materials. The domestic reverse charge applies to the whole supply including materials. Being inside CIS says nothing about whether someone is employed. A worker can be inside CIS, outside IR35, and still be an employee for PAYE purposes.
An accountant who sees this once or twice a year has to work it out each time. We do not.
Our Specialism in Trades and Construction
What it costs when it goes wrong
Very little of it is recoverable after the fact.
- An unregistered subcontractor loses ten per cent of every payment, on labour, for as long as it goes unnoticed
- A company that suffers CIS but never files the Employer Payment Summary pays HMRC money it has already paid them, sometimes for years
- The domestic reverse charge applied the wrong way means either VAT charged that should not have been, or VAT under declared
- A worker reclassified as an employee brings back PAYE, back National Insurance, interest and penalties, and it is the employer who pays
- Late CIS returns attract penalties that stack month on month
These are the ordinary errors we find when clients come to us from a general practice.
We work with electricians, plumbers, groundworkers, roofers, scaffolders, plasterers, tilers and builders.

Why Choose Us?
HMRC is hard work, and that is the job
Getting a straight answer out of HMRC on a construction question is rarely quick. Departments contradict each other. Helplines give different answers on different days. Getting to the bottom of a CIS position or an unallocated payment can take weeks of chasing.
We do this day in, day out, so we know which route resolves a problem and which one wastes a fortnight. That is not something you pick up on a training course. It comes from doing it repeatedly.
How we keep our fees down
Specialist advice is usually expensive. Ours is not, and that is deliberate rather than accidental.
We work with one sector, so the same situations come up again and again and we have built templates and processes for them. Work that takes a general practice hours takes us minutes, and we have measured that rather than assumed it.
Our team is structured so the right person does the right work. Technical work stays with qualified staff. Client contact and administration sit with our practice manager. Nobody is doing a job that could be done by someone else at a lower cost to you.
And we are clear about what is included. You choose how much contact you want and pay for that level, and we hold to what is agreed. That is not us being difficult. It is the reason we can price the way we do: if everything were included for everyone, everyone would pay for it.
Everything is handled remotely with meetings online, which keeps overheads down and means we can work with you wherever your sites are.
